5/24/2026

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, our school competed at the 2nd Gold Mountain Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Championship, held at the Gordon J. Lau Elementary School in San Francisco Chinatown. Our team had a very rewarding experience testing their skills alongside other martial artists from across the community.

We brought five of our dedicated students to compete in the Wing Chun Division / Hand Forms, and they made us incredibly proud. They all showed great focus and did a wonderful job representing our school. It was rewarding to see the steady effort from our regular training sessions carry over onto the tournament floor.

Congratulations to Our Competitors!
Please join us in celebrating our students' hard work and placements:
  • 🥇 Gold Medal: Alfred Wong
  • 🥈 Silver Medal: Connie Lam
  • 🥉 Bronze Medal: Kathy Chao
  • 🏅 4th Place: Wesley Kuang & Tony Lau
Stepping out in front of judges and a big crowd takes a lot of courage. The sharp focus and strong spirit they showed during their hand forms was truly inspiring. Winning medals is fantastic, but watching our students build confidence and support one another is the real victory.

The Power of a Strong Foundation: Siu Nim Tau
Our students' success on the tournament floor really shows the power of building a strong foundation. In Wing Tsun, everything starts with our very first empty-hand form: Siu Nim Tau translated as  "Little Idea".
Siu Nim Tau is the bedrock of our martial art, it sets the strong foundation for the future. It teaches students the core concepts of body integrity, balance, and mindfulness. The sharp focus, patience, and structural control our competitors displayed this weekend were all built right there on that first form.

Leadership on the Tournament Floor
The competition was also a wonderful gathering for the Bay Area martial arts community. Our very own Sifu Matyas was on the floor helping judge the events, working alongside other respected Bay Area Wing Chun Sifus and masters from various traditional Kung Fu styles to ensure a fair and great tournament for everyone.

Thank You!
A huge thank you goes out to our brave competitors for their hard work and focus, and to the parents and families for their endless encouragement and cheering loudly from the sidelines. We also want to extend our gratitude to the event organizers and all the volunteers for putting together a fantastic tournament and giving our students a great platform to showcase their skills.
We are already back to practice, using everything we learned this weekend to keep growing. See you all at the studio for our next class!

What Our Students Are Saying

YELP
"The teacher, Sifu Matyas, is one of the most patient and skilled instructors I've experienced. Over a few months, he taught us basic techniques and defensive maneuvers combined with practical and efficient movements.  We have made a lot of progress on our skills and I have been very impressed with the results to both my physical health, physique and muscle tone, as well as sharpening my reaction skills."  - B. Y.

"Tried the free trial beginners class with Sifu Matyas and learned so much. The class was 1 hour but he very kindly taught us for 1.5 hours. It was a very extensive experience and Sifu was very patient and helpful. It was a great way to exercise and learn self defense. After just one trial class, I already feel much better about self defense. Definitely will be returning for the adult classes on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. -Liya Z.

"We signed our 9 year old son up for a trial and brought along our 5 year old daughter as well. Sifu Matyas was patient and knowledgeable about the art and we felt that our son will certainly benefit from learning self defense. We've been to other places and they just seem like all they want is enrollment. However, it did not feel like that at all with Sifu Matyas. While my son was doing his trial, our daughter was watching as well. She seemed to show interest in the art and asked us if she can join as well. We were seriously surprised by this. She is not one to like people easily and only watching the Sifu Matyas for 45 minutes, she was comfortable enough to want to join the class. We enrolled both our kids and started class the next day. If you want your kids to learn a useful art with a great instructor, try Wing Tsun." -Amy C.
