Wing Tsun Kung Fu is self-defense in it's most uncompromising form. Employing simple and clever self-defense methodology and concepts without complicated techniques, it is a fast, simple and effective system. Wing Tsun (Wing Chun) teaches the ability to overcome larger, stronger opposition with the least amount of effort using body integrity, balance and mind-over matter common-sense techniques.
Self-defense isn't about empowerment; it is about effectively ending an attack quickly with minimum damage to you, and extends beyond just physical skills to ward off or stop an attacker. Self defense starts with feeling confident, being assertive, trusting your instinct, and having clear boundaries. Self-defense is something we use in our everyday lives.

Self-Defense Program at Burlingame High School
We are thrilled to share the success of a recent self-defense program conducted by Instructors Richard Moran and Matyas Tamas at Burlingame High School. Over six engaging sessions held during March and April 2024, 9th and 10th grade students were introduced to Wing Tsun Kung Fu-based self-defense techniques as part of their Physical Education curriculum.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from approximately 350 students, who learned a variety of essential techniques to enhance their self-defense skills. Students were instructed on fundamental techniques such as punching, kicking, palm strikes, stepping out of the line of attack, counter attacks from the side, taking opponents' back, and initiating a takedown. Additionally, they received training on grappling, arm and wrist freeing techniques, arm/elbow locks, choke and headlock defense, dealing with bear hugs, and defending roundhouse punches.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Burlingame High School and its Physical Education department for their warm welcome and collaboration throughout this initiative. Special thanks go to all the teachers and staff who supported the program and facilitated these valuable learning opportunities for the students. We look forward to future opportunities outside of our classroom to continue empowering our community through martial arts education and self-defense training.

What Our Students Are Saying"The teacher, Sifu Matyas, is one of the most patient and skilled instructors I've experienced. Over a few months, he taught us basic techniques and defensive maneuvers combined with practical and efficient movements. We have made a lot of progress on our skills and I have been very impressed with the results to both my physical health, physique and muscle tone, as well as sharpening my reaction skills." - B. Y. |
